You can find information about the local history along some hiking trails in the town.
The main focus is on photographs from the past together with a short informative text.
Fitjanesti, the snack bar at the last petrol station before Reykjanesbraut (the road to Reykjavík), was a much-visited port of call in Njarðvík. Many local people have memories of the place, remembering buying treats there before setting off on the journey to the city. Today this is the site of one of the largest shopping/service centres on the Reykjanes peninsula. And it is still possible to stop off there to fill the tank and enjoy a hot dog!
